Stainless Steel Tags and Nameplates

Stainless Steel Tags and Nameplates are suitable for extremely harsh environments such as mines or workplaces using industrial chemicals. Stainless Steel does not easily corrode, rust or stain. It has a high-temperature resistance and is also more resistant to chemicals than other metals. As with Anodised Aluminium, it is often used to brand equipment and machinery.

Stainless Steel Tags and Nameplates are suitable for:

    Printing serial numbers onto machinery used in extremely harsh environments such as mine equipment or machinery that handles industrial chemicals.

Stainless Steel tags can be CNC engraved or acid etched, both with or without paint fill, or screen printed in any number of colours. Where engraving or etching has been paint filled, the enamel paint is baked into the Stainless Steel to harden it and to prevent flaking and cracking. We can also etch and paint fill the background of the tag, which results in the text or detail being raised in the natural silver colour of the material. Etched or CNC engraved information is less susceptible to abrasion or scratching compared to screen print or laser engraving, both of which are to the surface of the tags.

Stainless Steel tags can be finished with holes or slots, or with adhesion. These can be square cut or cut to shape with a cutting tool or a laser cutter. We most commonly use 304 Standard Grade or 316 Marine Grade Stainless Steel, starting from a gauge of 0.55mm.

Q. Can Stainless Steel tags and nameplates be printed in Full Colour? Unlike Anodised Aluminium, Stainless Steel cannot be digitally printed onto. Images can however be screen printed in a number of Pantone Colours. As with Anodised Aluminium, screen printing is to the surface of the metal only, and is therefore prone to scratching. We generally chemical etch & paint fill Stainless Steel in whatever colours are required, which provides a long lasting and durable product.

Q. Are there different grades of Stainless Steel? Stainless Steel is available in Standard Grade 304, and Marine Grade 316. Marine Grade is more corrosive resistant and is especially recommended for use at or near the ocean. 304 Stainless Steel is the more commonly used material as it is cheaper than 316.

Q. Is Stainless Steel available in different finishes? The most common Stainless Steel finishes are as follows:
‘2B’ Finish - a smooth, milled finish which is only very slightly reflective. It is light grey in colour;
‘#4’ Finish - a brushed, linish finish, with a low gloss, produced with short parallel polishing lines;
‘#8’ Finish - a highly reflective mirror finish, free from grit lines;
‘BA’ Finish - a bright reflective appearance, which may have some cloudiness & other imperfections.

Q. Do you have standard sizes that we can choose from? Most of our jobs are laser cut to whatever size & shape that you require. This includes rounded corners and holes.

Q. Are tags and nameplates supplied for easy installation? If required, our tags and nameplates can be supplied with either an industrial adhesive backing, or holes for screws or rivets, or both adhesive and holes.

Q. Are Stainless Steel Tags and Namplates available in different thicknesses (gauges)? Yes, the gauges that we work with are: 0.55mm, 0.7mm, 0.9mm, 1.0mm, 1.2mm, 1.5mm, 2.0mm, 3.0mm.

Q. Are Stainless Steel tags and nameplates resistant to external elements. All of our Stainless Steel tags and nameplates are UV safe, water & weather resistant. These tags and nameplates can be used in very harsh environments, like mines, and also in environments where chemicals are used.

Q. If I have more than 1 kind of artwork, can different kinds be printed at the same time? Yes, we will take your artwork files and combine them in a layout suitable for printing a number of different kinds at the same time.

Q. How long will it take to manufacture tags or nameplates in Stainless Steel? Standard turnaround for Stainless Steel jobs is 16-18 working days.
